Fine early 19th Century inlaid mahogany Stick Barometer. The break-arch pediment over well engraved silvered brass register plate, signed by the maker and bearing mercury Fahrenheit thermometer and manually adjustable vernier. The trunk, edge moulded, herringbone veneered and chequer strung in ebony and boxwood, with exposed barometer tube terminating in turned cistern cover, inset with ivory and ebony roundel. c1810. One of the finest of the Italian immigrant barometer makers, whose dynasty flourished into the 20th Century.
