An 18th century treen 'Fisherman's Friend' (Pinto)
A turned and whittled boxwood fishing companion. It is in two main parts- the outer frame where the line and hooks were wound and the inner sectional tube with separate compartments for weights, 18th century. Illustrated in Edward H. Pinto's 'Treen and other Wooden Bygones' text page 267 and plate 286. Condition - There are losses to two of the outer winders and a closed, stable crack where the central section screws in at the top but it still closes tightly.
