As part of our Japanese art collection we are delighted to offer this most unusual high quality bronze okimono of a Tiger by the highly regarded Akosofu Gyoko. The Artist has captured the tiger with incredible movement poised as if to strike with its back hunched, its shoulders raised, and its head reared in an aggresive but almost comical manner, almost drawn as a charicature of a Tiger! The heavy bronze cat has striped details chiselled into his coat, he is further highlighted with parcel gilded teeth and claws, a realistic pink tongue and menacing gilt and shakudo eyes. The underside is signed by Akosofu Gyoko in an oblong seal. He stands on a wonderful hardwood stand carved with leaf and bark design to represent the forest setting, a truly magical and unusual okimono by a high quality artist.
