Devonshire House Ball Headdress
This lost headdress has been brought back to life with this stunning recreation based on a single, black and white photograph. The original was designed for Louise Duchess of Devonshire to wear at the Devonshire House Ball in 1897 to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee.
Rare craftsmanship skills were essential in the creation of the headdress and the *C W Sellors team acknowledge it was one of the most technically complex and demanding projects they had taken on. The process started by making detailed drawings and designs. Clusters of jewels were pre-fashioned before fitting to the intricate silver vermeil frame.
It’s a truly global piece insomuch it contains 450 stones sourced from all over the world, including CZ Diamonds, Pearls from the Far East, Amethyst and Peridot from Brazil, finished off with flamboyant ostrich feathers. (* C W Sellors owns W Hamond - the Original Whitby Jet Shop)
