The Antiques Bazaar
  1. What do you deal in?

I specialise in the following areas: Ruskin, English Arts and Crafts silver; Arts and Crafts to Art Deco jewellery; Georgian glass and objets de vertu.

  2. When did you start dealing?

I started dealing on the 1st September 2011 after walking away from my professional job, following the tragic death of my husband. The antiques world has provided me with a wonderful new world of excitement, sociability and hunting.

  3. Best buy?

My best buy was a Ruskin eggshell lustre bowl for £35.00.

  4. Top Tip for new collectors?

I would advise any new collector to research their area of interest thoroughly by: visiting the better trade fairs such as the NEC; visiting reputable auctions; getting a feel for the pricing and interest; talking to dealers about pitfalls they have experienced (we are a really knowledgeable bunch and very talkative...); not being deceived by trends and following their heart; learning how to haggle stylishly (none of this nonsense about what is the best, as this is guaranteed in my case to make me glaze over and offer minimal discount...); showing passion for your item and building a collection around it. Always look at condition and buy perfect every time if possible. On the other hand do not shilly-shally as there are only two sorts of people in collecting - the swift and the disappointed (I thank my grandmother for that)!

  5. Why do you choose to exhibit at fairs?

I choose to exhibit at fairs as I now have a strong customer base and I love the social interaction of trading with both the public and other traders.
